What are some good quality video cards on the market right now? Nothing too expensive though.?

I am looking for a good/decent video card for a computer that I want to build. Also, I don't know what else I want to add on to the computer other than I want a quad core processor. Any help/advice with what to get for a good gaming/music video making computer would be much appreciated!

  1. Proto says:

Well, for gaming… keep in mind that a high-speed Dual-core like the 3.0Ghz E8400 outperforms the Quad-Core Q6600. In most current games, you don't actually benefit from the extra 2 cores, they just sit around idle. But for movie editing and multitasking, a Quad-core CPU really pays off.

I'd recommend a Q9450 if you can afford it- the newer Yorkfield 45nm chips really smoke the older Quads.

For video cards, it all comes down to your budget. Here are the best video cards in each price range:

    $100 – Geforce 9600GSO
    $130 – Geforce 8800GT (outperforms the Radeon 3870)
    $175 – Radeon 4850
    $300 – Radeon 4870
