How do I find keywords that people use in organic search that lead them to come to my web site (not paid placement such as ppc, but organic search)? especially from Google and Yahoo?
I read about 'research referrals' in Search Marketing Inc by Mike Moran but it doesn't talk about how to find research referrals.

Keyword research…where? How?
Now that overture has turned off the Keyword Research Tool where does one now go for recursive keyword research? (as one could do with the tool).
Are there third-party solutions that will give you the words and cost estimates for Yahoo, MSN, and Google?

I was researching on health insurance, which, in google trends belongs to two categories viz. Health & Insurance. But, the keyword Health Insurance throws very different results in both the categories.
So, how is it that google is able to categorize Health Insurance in both the categories??? On a macro level, i believe what would answer my dilemma is: What is the methodolgy & logic of these categories on google trends???
What are the most popular keyword searches made by people in my home town?

I'd like to create a website providing info of interest to people in my home town. It would be nice to know what keywords they use when they are searching the Internet. I tried Yahoo Search Marketing and Google Adwords and they got me a little bit of info but not enough to really make an informed decision about what people around here want to find online. Are there other online resources that can help me find this info? Do I need to stop people on the street and ask them? Please point me in a direction that might help me do some of this basic market research.

When i searched google.com for Mortgage Broker Asheville and i found that www.aerialonemtg.com ranked #1 Well it would be good optimization but when I did some research on it i found that-
1) The internal link structure was really poor.
2) First the title was so long but you said that the title should be short so that Google gives more wieghtage to each keyword.
3) IT didn’t use <H1> tags at all.
4) It had a PR of 0.15 the lowest possible.
5) It didn’t have any alt tags.
6) When I searched google for "link:http://www.aerialonemtg.com/" I saw that it had no sites linking to it.
7) They have not highlighted the main keyword anywhere in the content.
The On page and off page optimization factors appear to be 0 BUT THEN HOW DID THEY RANK SO WELL THAT #1.
For such a competitive keyword.
How is this possible?
Would you please clarify?
Pls. answer this question.
Does this sound good? SEO developer guarantees top 3 positions for major keyword or money back.?

I am currently looking for an SEO developer for my website. I recently just hired one based in India (which I found through elance.com), about 8 months ago. He was able to do onpage optimization and create 150 inbound links to my site, along with other SEO works such as article submission, directory submission.
The problem is that the 150 inbound links were mostly PR0, PR1, and sometimes PR2. They were somewhat irrelevant to my niche market.
I started with about a top 10-12 position with my main keyword, and now I am in the top 8-9 position. Not really that impressive in my opinion.
Anyways, Ive been doing research online for SEO developers, and I stumbled upon this site called www(dot)internet(dash)empire(dot)com.
I emailed them for a quotation and the person I am speaking with is very professional and great to speak with. It is a company based in Singapore. You can check their website.
The guarantee he has is that he will guarantee me at the top 3 positions for 5 of my main keywords (I choose the big main keywords I have), or my money-back, full refund. This will be done in 6 months or less, and I will pay him the remaining 50% as the 5 keywords reach the top 3 position.
The price is ,500 USD.
I wanted to ask the opinions here at Warrior Forum before I move forward with this. I believe that ,500 is a little heavy on my end, but if it would mean getting the top 3 positions on Google.com for my top 5 keywords, this would be a wonderful deal.
Thanks in advance for your inputs!

How can I research keywords that are prevalent in Australia if I’m in the US?

I'm familiar with Google Tools (Insight, Trends, SEO Book, etc. etc.). But it seems I can't get enough information on strong keywords in Australia. Big things, like changing "mom" to "mum" make a huge difference in the trends, and a lot aren't big enough to show up. If I do a search from my computer in the US, I'm not getting the same results they would in Australia. What's the best way to be able to get a good geographical representation of keyword phrases for a specific country?
