Google seems to be ahead of everyone with regard to video streaming, is it the future?

I am not trying to insult Yahoo but when I plug into a Google video stream on DSL they seem to offer more than trailers. The problem may be in marketing competition. I was thinking that once the market takes hold and the video quality improves with the latest technologies Google, Yahoo, AOL and the others could offer discount rates on documentaries and entertainment video. If I am correct I have to purchase the video's now, I was thinking more on the line of cable TV on broadband. Perhaps you could enlighten me.

Do you know any good freeware programs for making videos?

I run a business where I make marketing videos and when I started it I was using Windows Movie Maker, but I'm starting to realize how much WMM can limit your creativity. I don't have any startup capital so I can't really go buy anything. Do you know any good freeware programs for making slideshow-type advertising trailers?
